So your wondering what happened.......

Hello!!!  How I have missed this!!!  Well what can I say....

SHIT HAPPENS!!!!!

I blame a lot of things for not keeping my blog updated!  Family problems, my cousin coming over, me being lazy (that was a 2% contribution)!

BUT I am not going to dwell……..  THE PLAY SCHEME HAS FINISHED!!!!  I am sooo happy!!!  It was one of the biggest challenges of my life and I didn’t quit half way through!  I think what it was that me and my friend Sadia started from scratch and organised everything ourselves and that’s why it was sooo much pressure!

WOULD I DO IT AGAIN?................... Actually maybe, but I don’t think I would take the lead for next year…..just a back seat driver!

Well I might nearly be at the point where I might be getting a job!!!  I am not saying anything yet, but will let you know when I get the job, if I do!  Can I just say that my personal advisor at the job centre is the BEST!!!  She has encouraged me and helped me sooo much so I cannot wait if I get the job!

Right, people may think that I stopped doing this blog after the opinions of this RJ person!  That is not the case!  What I would like to say to this RJ person is, yes after Iftari we do eat, but the food at the wedding was served earlier……secondly if you think this blog is dull, then all I can say is that sorry it doesn’t come up to your standard and I am still learning so I will prove you wrong, so keep reading…………….

Todays blog will be in two parts….so keep it here!!!

I have missed my peeps!!!!

Day 10 - where to start........

Hello people!!

Firstly I hope everyone got home safely today!  I don’t want to talk about the riots in detail but what I would like to say is….

WELL DONE WEST MIDLANDS POLICE SERVICE

I feel like I can walk around the city and feel safe…..One thing I do want to mention is that the city was quiet as I left the work place earlier and we finished the play scheme earlier as well.  I didn’t feel the normal city that I walk through everyday.  People were scared.  The normal city talk didn’t call out to me or the general city feel wasn’t there!  It’s sad…I also would like to say that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.  People have died because of this and I think everyone should take a moment and pray that these souls rest in peace and are granted a place in Heaven…..

Right………Because of everything that is happening, I forget that I am fasting.  This doesn’t mean I go around eating, but I don’t feel hungry, I just feel there are more important things happening in this world apart from me being hungry!

I have just come back from TESCO (but I am loyal to ASDA, but it closed early today) and my cousin was saying kept on saying I was looting for jokes……NOT FUNNY!!!

I made Pasta bake, fish, pizza and a whole lot of love…..well I hope I did hahaha!!!  All for my cousin who is staying with us for the next few days!!  I have a wedding to go to this weekend but I don’t know what to do!  Although things have calmed down in Birmingham tonight, I don’t know if it will rise again on the weekend!!!

What makes me flabbergasted (and that is a real word to me!!!) is that these yobbo’s think they won’t get caught!  They blatantly looting in front of the camera and don’t care!  Some of the children came up with the idea that we should make an electric prison for these animals so if they try to escape, they get electrocuted!!!  I said that was a very good idea hahaha!!!

My kids at the play scheme are our next generation and they need to be educated about these things!  I cannot keep up with the Media in this country!  We have had soo much going on since the Royal wedding!  I think I should be a personal advisor to our Prime Minister.  Tell him a few jokes so he likes me, the gradually do a coup and take over!!!

At the moment we are known as a yobbo country……….lets change this inshallah!  Look after yourself my peeps!!!

Day 9 - Good vs Evil...............

Hello!!

Sorry for the very very very late blog…I have just been very busy discussing our children’s safety at the play scheme and how we can deal with this tomorrow.  As I type I am watching Sky News and still there are youth are creating havoc!

Today’s blog is called Good VS Evil…….It’s all about these riots around the country.  As I type, a Sky News correspondent is talking to young people in Greater Manchester and they are saying the youth are doing this to make money for college and University….I am sorry, but this is no excuse whatsoever for these animalistic acts!  I am unemployed and I am fed up about being unemployed, does this mean I should join the rioters or work towards change?

I totally understand that the government has let young people down regarding students fee’s, shutting down youth services and soo much more.  I totally understand that, BUT as I was looking around my room full of kids aged between 8 to 14, I wondered….

IS THIS WHAT I WANT FOR THE NEXT GENERATION?

The answer is HELL NO!!!  A question I ask myself and the media is asking is WHERE ARE THE PARENTS?!!!  Are they joining in or do they not care?  I can’t sympathise with the people who are committing these acts!  It’s absolutely disgusting and selfish of these people!

BUT………..

Where is evil, good will always over power the bad!!!  I will stand up and salute the people who have helped with the clean up projects around the country.  I am proud to be British when I see people cleaning their city.  People need to show these animals that we will not fall in this epic battle…..NEVER!!!!

People please phone in and name and shame these young people so they know not to do this again.  At the moment I don’t have enough confidence with the police because London jails/prisons are full up with these looters and now have 16,000 extra officers, but what about the rest of the country?!!  AND where will they put the other looters?  Everyone one of these young people have a future and yes instead of being disgusted, we need more youth workers to get involved, we need to train more youth workers so that young people feel that they are not being ignored!

OK I have ranted enough regarding this but I feel so passionate about this as well.  Yes my fasting is going good but I want to do as much good as I can in this month and after to help change this chaos into order!!!!  I hope the Prime Minister has a great solution or we need a new Government!!!!

I’ll leave you with a funny thought…..One of my children said (who is eight):
‘Sir I am in a gang’.  I was like a gang?!  He goes:

‘A good gang though’.  He even has a name for their gang.  Here goes…..

THE REDFOOT GANG!!!

Kids these days!  I am just glad they are not on the streets!  Remember once these looters are done with the shops, they’ll come for our houses!  They are already attacking people, innocent people!  Come one people, we can change this!!!

GOOD WILL ALWAYS BE STRONGER THAN EVIL!

Good Bless You All

Day 8 - The Fasting Bug.............

Hello All!!

Sorry for the late blog, but I have been hooked onto the news since I got home!  Riots left, right and centre!!!!  I can’t believe what some parts of London have become!  It really sickens me that people think they can get away with looting, smashing windows, setting buildings alight!

The thing is and I will say this because I am part of an ethnic minority…..that we don’t help ourselves!  Yes I do understand that there may be some sort of injustice within the deprived areas across the country, I really do understand this and I know people are probably angry, BUT this does not give these people the right o go around and create havoc!  I really don’t know the whole story regarding the gentlemen that got shot, but I don’t think this is the right way about doing things….but I am not going to go on about this as there is soo much I want to talk about today!

Right…It was a very good day today!  We had a guest come in for the play scheme.  His name is Shaun Welch and he is part of Evoke Media!  The kids loved him!!  The girls done a poetry session with him and the boys done an acting and innovative performance workshop.  The day could not have gone better if I say so myself!

See fasting is like a bug…I call it the fasting bug.  After a certain amount of time (one week), you get used to fasting and you just get on with your day…its amazing how this happens because you don’t recognise this, it just happens!!!  Its fantastic!!!  Now I can just go with the flow…..

What else can I tell you….ummmm…..I am eating halal marshmallows as we speak!  Delicious!  Sorry but the riots have just got on my nerves because what are you fighting for seriously?!!!

Today I am thankful for the friends I have and really appreciate them.  Ramadhan does help you reflect on what you take for granted and this is why we should take full advantage of the month and yess this is including me!  So today I am going to love you and leave you with these thoughts and please feel free to not agree with me, I don’t mind at all!!!

PLEASE BE SAFE THIS WEEK

Day 7 - Don't touch that chocolate finger!!!!!!

Hello All!!

I don’t know where to start as there are soo many things I want to talk about!  Right I have just come back from a BBQ in the rain!  One to remember….My uncle did raise a good point though after reading one of my previous blogs in which I mentioned Holby City, he said:

‘Instead of watching Holby City to keep you awake, which it didn’t, try reading the Koran

I had to come out with something that’s me which is I am at the rebellious stage of I-Slam!  What I mean by this is that I don’t know what to do.  I want to pray because I want to, not because it is a chore for me to do.  So I will be focussing on this as well this Ramadhan alongside many other things.

Today in the early hours of the morning, I kept thinking whenever I awoke (3 times!!!) that I was running very very very late for my play scheme!  So I would say pout loud:

‘Oh s***, I am late!!’ (no foul language on my blog)!!!!

It was hilarious when I thought about it after.  The main title that I have for day 7 ‘don’t eat that chocolate finger’ is because Ramadhan is all about control.  Controlling your urges.  Today I had one chocolate finger remaining (fingers meaning the biscuit) on the plate and I kept looking at it all day and I was telling myself not to eat but my stomach was saying eat it!  What did I do you ask...........well….I…

DID NOT EAT IT!!!!   I am well happy about that!  But now I have eaten it because I just got home from my BBQ and ate it because I am not fasting because I have opened my fast!  So what I am trying to say people is control all those urges until after you open you’re fast!!!

Today I had a telephone conversation with the bank because I had forgotten my pin details and the lady was telling me to press this button and do this and I was saying:

‘Well it’s not working is it because I am doing everything you are saying’

Then she would just repeat the same instruction over and over and over again!  There were also some awkward pauses as well!  I HATE awkward pauses, well I hate pauses full stop!!  I just don’t know what to say to fill that pause, I am not a pause filler and I never will be thank god!!!  Oh sorry god is with a capital G…..GOD.

I have also done some job searches today because I do not want to do any more free work, yes that’s right….

NO MORE FREE WORK!!!!

EXCEPT…….my friend’s charity do because he is my very good friend!!!  This charity do is about raising money for the people of Palestine especially those poor orphaned children.  So if you are interested in attending a fun filled night then all you have to do is phone Interpal (the charity) 07527 345 464  and ask for Adil who is the organiser.  It’s on the 21st August in Birmingham.  Anymore information ten you can reply to this blog and I will forward you to the right place.  It’s a worthwhile charity and I will be there on the day helping out but seriously after than….NO MORE FREE WORK!!!

So people what have you learnt?  Well you tell me and then I’ll tell you if you’re right!!!  I hope this blog just takes you away from that certain stress you have or that bad day you’ve had at home or at work and I hope I cheer you up or make you think about certain things.  If I have done that then I am happy because that’s what my aim is!

I love writing this blog, it empowers me!  Maybe I will become famous from this, or maybe not I don’t know…who knows what will happen?  Just remember one thing…………………………………………….

DON’T TOUCH THAT CHOCOLATE FINGER!!!!

koran - holy book

Day 6 - Live Your Life.....

Hello my eager readers!!!

Right after prayer yesterday night, I decided to stay up until sehri time!!!  Now when people stay up through the night they usually pray more, but not me, I do something different……it’s called a TV catch up!!!

My cousin did raise a good point in the early hours of the morning saying that try and not watch TV for a week and see how you feel.  I said NEVER could I ever do this because the TV is where I gather all my information from!!  Without the TV I would be a ‘normal’ person!  Television has a significant position in my daily life…just imagine a world without Eastenders!!!  What would I do? How would I cope? There would be no Christmas specials, no evil Janine…….no Masoods!!!!

I think when you are fasting in this month, I applaud people who can take the TV out their life and not listen to music and generally just keep focussed, BUT (AND THIS IS A GIANT BUT) after the month has finished, will they continue this or will they go back to their normal ways?  It is true that in the month of Ramadhan, shaytaan is locked up and whatever bad you do, that is you doing it, not shaytaan whispering in your ear and encouraging you to do so!!!

This surely must mean I am a bad person?  Who is to judge id I am a bad person though except Allah.........

BUT let’s not get too serious!  The other day I made my 3 year plan!  This included things like:

·        Going to LA and NY.
·        Going on a cruise.
·        Find a girl that will get married abroad (and I don’t mean Pakistan) or on a beach.
·        Help the world in a certain way.
·        Have at least one famous friend.
·        Meet Rihanna in whatever way possible.
·        Be a Whirling Dervisher for a day.
·        AND MANY OTHERS

Now the most important thing for me is to stick to this as I really want to live my life for the next three years.
One a random…this was funny….we are holding a safety awareness day on Thursday for the play scheme and we need he police and ambulance to be there…I honestly thought you just dial 999 and ask for the events and bookings department!!!  Obvi not…..oh well you live and learn hey!

So today people in the worlds of Rihanna just…..Live you life!!!!

Day 5 - Improvements.......

Hello!!!

Yet again it’s an incredible night for blogging!!!  Right today was the most relaxing days of them all even though I had to get up early to sign on for 9 am!  Did I hear someone say what’s the dole queue like?….well let me tell you!!!

When you go in on some days its like you want the ground to swallow you up because you don’t want to be there and you do not want anyone to se you there either!  Today it was very quick and I didn’t really take any notice of the people around me because I was too busy looking at the job points.  My job centre itself is very posh and has 3 floors I believe!  BUT you do get the loud mouths in there that bring their children with them and shout:

‘Oi you!!! Get ere nowww’!!!! (in a strong Walsall accent…think Wolverhampton)

When that happens I thank God that I was raised with some public standards……BUT just to side track, I did roll down the window of my car on one sunny afternoon outside the mosque and shouted some profanities at my brother…..BUT I have learnt from my mistakes lol!  I think everyone has some hidden chavness that they don’t know about (except for me of course)!

So after the Job centre I went to ‘hang’ with some peeps at the Muath Trust which is a community centre by the way!  I may be going to Western- Super-Mare in a week’s time, but more about that later!  I went to the local mosque there and I am not joking, when I got there it was packed to the brim and I had to stand before the actual Friday prayer started (which we call jummah).  After that I chilled out and then Saleem Sajid (my friend) made a guest appearance and he dropped me off home!!

BUT the point of today is to think where can I improve?  I think I can improve by trying to pray at least my five obligatory prayers a day and then move on to the more specialist stuff…..and I don’t mean bomb making!!!  So people its day 5…think about what improvements you could make so that the next 5 days ca be better for you.

OK that got a bit toooo serious!  Oh yess..thats right, I did want to say that I am sick and tired of people telling me what I need to do, what my responsibilities are….so you people who tell me this….four words…..YOU CAN’T SEE ME!!

I was talking about going to mosque the other day and I was asked:

‘Can you go to the mosque more than once a day’?  M y answer is that you can go as many times as you want until they lock the gates at your local mosque lol!!!  There will be a day when I Khaled Nawaz will go to the mosque five times a day!

Right people, the journey continues and let’s see if my humour, honesty and horridness continues!

Until tomorrow!!!

Day 4 - Delegate and relax.....

Hello all you fantastic people who are following this incredible Ramadhan journey I am on this year!!!

So I just want to talk a little about yesterday night.  I went to the mosque and boy was it HOT in there!!  I have never been soo tired in my life!  I got home around 00:30 and I thought to myself stay awake until sehri time (the breakfast bit of the fasting).  I watched one episode of Holby City and I was asleep on the sofa once again!  I do think I can sleep anywhere!  My favourite place to sleep is on my bus!  It's a very posh up to date bus...the service is X51...it misses many stops!  I lean my head on the window and off I go...although when I do wake up I make sure people don't think I have been sleeping lol!!!

Anyway back to the main bit!  So I wake up on the sofa thinking OMG how am I going to get to the dining room table for breakfast because I was soo fatigued!  I had a pan du chocolate (or something like that) and a glass of water!

The reason why I called today’s blog delegate and relax is because this is what I was doing at the Play Scheme today!!!  I had enough volunteers so I let them take the reins!  It was a test for them to see if they could do it and they were very good!!!  Although I did not just sit and relax, I still ran around and made phone calls left right and centre!  I think today’s blog will be slightly shorter because I am very tired!

My dad made fish!  It was very lovely though…he put bread crumbs on and lemon and there was fish sauce and potatoes and vegetables…LOVELLY!

Guys I love the fact that you take out time to read my life during Ramadhan!  Each day is a mini episode…I love it and enjoy writing it sooo much!  There is a lot to come this month as I will feed the homeless, attend a charity bash, even a day in itikaaf (this is where you stay in the mosque and isolate yourself from society and really pray and reflect about you and your relationship with god).

SO KEEP READING ON BECAUSE I LOVE YOU FOR IT!!!!

Day 3 - Remember and Think......

So if you follow me on facebook (khaled nawaz) or on twitter (khalnawaz), then you'll know that I was not awakened by nobody today (don't know if that makes sense but there are no rules in a blog)!!!

I was not impressed about this, but then again I did have more sleep!  So it was a lovely stroll to the bus stop with my shades on and my I-pod!  GREAT!!!  When I get near to Birmingham city centre, I decided to....just on a random play the incredible album 'Back to Black' by the five time Grammy award Winning artist (the late) Amy Winehouse...why am I telling you this, there is a reason!!!

When I got off the bus there was one of them guys giving away the free copied of 'Stylist' the freemazine as Lord Sugar said on the apprentice.....but anyway, the main story was a tribute to Amy Winehouse!  I was like how weird!  When I read it, I was saddened because she was a real music maker and such a waste of talent......

This is why today its about remembering the loved one you lost and thinking about people whose life is much worse than yours, especially the starving around the world....you do not have to be Muslim to be this, you just have to be human.....

I don’t want to get too serious as this is an alternative Ramadhan blog...so...apart from that...today at the play scheme, we called our day a free style day as we were thinking on our feet!!!  I had parents come up to me saying my child thinks its boring and my child needs more sporty activities...in my head I was thinking...I don't actually care because my play scheme is the best regardless if you don't come back next year, but instead I said:

'we don't want the children to just play sports all day long, we are mixing things up and if they don't play in the sports hall or the youth club for one day is not going to hurt them as they complain about being thirsty because they are fasting, so either way I can't win'

ps - DO NOT MESS WITH ME IN GENERALLY BUT DEFFO DO NOT MESS WITH ME WHILST I AM A FASTING ROBOT!!!!!

Trust me, these parent's are happy to just drop there kids off for the whole day, so don't complain!  BUT my kids had a really good day today, we had a paper mache table, a 'my community' table and a design your own board game table and then in the last hour we play non-stop rounder’s!!!  Great day!

I do found it very reflective blogging before I open my fast, it makes me remember my day and be thankful for what I have!!!

Right this is my blog for today, so I hope you found it reflective and a little funny?!!!

Until Tomorrow......

Remember...................GOD IS ALWAYS WATCHING!

Tuesday, 2 August 2011

Day 2 - The Zombie Walk

Hello my followers or blogists or whatever you are!!!

Right this morning I woke up on time!!!  I was soo happy untill.....my dad's little comments!

Right so firstly I am going to tell you what I ate.  I opted for (like I have a menu to hand everyday) the cereal which was sugar puff's, a croissant, water and some fruit!!!  I was told on day one of fasting to eat not as much as possible, but until you are comfortably full because if you don't then when it comes to that time when you want to eat in the evening, then your body will automatically store it as fat!!!  I am not a scientist so I am not going to into the fine details regarding this!

Before I go into the comments, I want to tell you that I went around and woke people up today in my household!  As you know my mother and two of the trippo's are on holidays!  Trippo's is referring to the triplets (I just like to make words shorter)!!!  So I went to trippo 2's room (who is the only one who refused to go on holiday....I know!!!!) turned the light on and said

'It's time to wake up'.  She gave me the dirtiest look ever!!!  Then I went to my older sister’s room and reluctantly said wake up and left her as she gets a bit angry if I leave her light on.  Now going back to the comments.....I am at the table and my dad is criticising the Ramadhan shopping i did saying

'Which genius brought this' and 'why is this like that' etc!  I remained calm and wrote notes in my blogging note pad saying

'I brought less of these because if I brought more, they would go off (referring to the croissants)!  Trust me, do not cross me in the morning, I am NOT a morning person at all!!!

So today was the trip for the boys on my play scheme to Aston Hall.  Before I get to the play scheme.....I am doing THE ZOMBIE WALK!  This is where my legs are moving but my mind is saying what are you doing, what’s going on?!  It happens when your fasting and have less sleep!  The zombie walk is a popular walk amongst many fasting people, luckily my legs knew where i was meant to be going!!!!

My group of boys that were on the trip behaved in an excellent manner!!! The quote of the day was

'Sir I have been here before, but I was five then and I couldn't read very well, but now I am eight so I can'!!!!
KIDS SAY THE FUNNIEST THINGS AND ME BEING FAKE ABOUT IT REALLY HELPS!

Well I hope you have enjoyed the read today!  I will leave you with the funniest thing of the day...on the way back from Birmingham town, my cousin Rameez calls me.  I am near to my stop and the bus stopped at the traffic lights, so me being me thought I could get to the bottom of the stairs before the bus moves off.......OBVI NOT!!!  My legs went running down them stairs and luckily I did not fall flat on my ass but instead  ran straight into the wall lolage!!!  These girls looked at me and as I turned around, the laughed.  I thought to myself, don't get embarrassed, just shrug it off said to my cousin I just fell down the stairs and now I am getting off the bus as you do to show people this fall did not affect me!

Hope you enjoy the long read and KC at Choice FM....THANK YOU!!!!!

1st Day Blues........

So you prepare and prepare and prepare or you just go with (I normally just go with it).  I didn't know what was going on in the morning!  I stumbled up off the sofa, because I fell asleep there, walked a few paces to the bath room and walked around, even though there was 10 minutes to go till I could scoff all the food I could find!!!  So I........

walked into the kitchen as slow as a tortoise and got a croissant and a glass of water!!!  What was I thinking!!!! I had plans for the first day... I was going to tell you about my breakfast feast!!!  BUT instead I reached for a croissant and a glass of water!

One thing I did notice in the morning, is the stares and THE RACE AGAINST TIME mode I call it!  It's that time where people worry that they haven't ate enough and reach for more!  It makes me laugh to see that race against time mode on peoples faces!  That isn't what Ramadhan is all about!  I am not the most religious person in the world, but I know that its not about the race against time mode, or going around the work place making sad faces to show that your fasting.....it's about thinking of those who don't have food today, like those in Africa and how lucky they would feel if they had a croissant and water just for the morning time!

I am not preaching, because I am not a preacher, but I am saying......lets see what happens.....because I will moan and have tantrums during this 30 day period!

For those who don't know much about fasting, the basics is:

  • I wake up at like 3am ish and have my breakfast.
  • I should pray and read the Koran.
  • After this I either go back to sleep or listen to the radio - deffo KC on Choice FM!
  • I get ready to run the play scheme (yes dealing with children aged from 8-14 whilst fasting!!!!  First moan....oh well!!!)
  • come home and see what food we have (my mother is on holidays)!!!!
  • and write my blog at some point!!

At some point I will mention what the children have been doing but today, its all about me!  So this is a very long Day 1 insight into my Ramadhan 2011 experience!  I really hope you laugh, cry and think with me on this incredible journey we Muslim's go through every year!!!!

Cannot wait for tomorrow!
